KIA SOUL EV - (won the 2015 Canadian Green Car Award)

THE KIA SOUL EV

The Kia Soul EV won the 2015 Canadian Green Car Award as the vehicle best combining environmental benefits with mass market appeal.

The first all-electric, zero emmisions Kia car sold worldwide with a partical driving range and bold look that builts on the unique dimensions and design of the Kia Soul. The Soul EV takes things further with exclusive, vibrant two-tone styling, LED daytime running lamps and eye catching headlamps and taillamps.

Aside from the overall award, the Kia also took the battery/electric zero emission category.

ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY (EVB) - ALFA BATTERY

AN ELECTRIC VEHICLE BATTERY OR TRACTION BATTERY

Rechargeable batteries are usually the most expensive components of Battery Electric Vehicles (BEV), being half the retail cost of the car.

Traction batteries must be designed with a high ampere-hour capacity. Batteries for electric vehicles are characterized by their relatively high power to weight ratio, energy to weight ratio and energy density; smaller, lighter batteries reduce the weight of the vehicle and improve its performance.

The predicted market for EBV is over $37 billion in 2020.

In 2015 we will see the Alfa battery (Aluminium air batteries) that has 40 times capacity of lithium-ion. The aluminium air battery has a theoretical specific energy level of 8,100 Wh/kg and the second largest capacity among various types of potential secondary batteries. The theoretical specific energy of a commercialized lithium ion battery is 120-200 Wh/kg.

According to its creators (Fuji Pigment Co. Ltd.) :

  • It can work just by refilling salty water or normal water once in a while.
  • Aluminium is an abundant, cheap and safe material which can be applied for metal air batteries. Therefore, battery price can be cheap.
  • The new battery can be manufactured and work in an ambient atmosphere because it is stable in ambient air conditions. Moreover, there is no need to worry about explosion or flammability like a lithium ion battery.
  • All materials (electrode, electrolyte) are safe and cheap, and can be made very easily even in the house kitchen.

1088 HP Rimac Concept One Electric Sport Car

RIMAC CONCEPT ONE

The Rimac Concept One is a two seated high performance electric sports car designed and manufactured by Rimac Automobili. With a total output of 1,088 hp, an acceleration from 0-100 kmph in 2.8 seconds.

Rimac Concept One is fast, elegant and expensive with a cost of around $1 million per unit. The Rimac employs carbon fiber throughout the body, as well as a carbon fiber monocoque chassis with the battery pack built in. Each wheel is powered by separate liquid cooled permanent magnet electric motor.

A system called All Wheel Torque Vectoring also helps to give the Rimac exceptional compared to more primitive combustion powered hypercars. Also, the car has the ability to switch the power from front wheel to rear wheel drive, the first car with that ability.

"I believed that the electric propulsion can give much more compared to what was available on the market"
- Mate Rimac (founder of Rimac Automobili)

FIRST ELECTRIC CAR ARRIVAL IN INDIA

INDIAN ELECTRIC CAR

After 13 years of research and development, India's first electric car 'REVA' was launched in the national capital Delhi on 25 Wednesday 2008.

REVAi electric car, available in 26 countries with more than 4,000 of its different versions sold worldwide by mid March 2011.

Mahindra Reva currently produces two versions of REVAi:

  1. REVAi, equipped with lead-acid batteries, which has a nominal range of 80 km (mi) per charge and top speed of 80 km/h (50 mph).
  2. REVA L-ion, equipped with Lithium-ion batteries, which has faster acceleration and a nominal range of 120 km (75 mi) per charge.

ELECTRIC CAR ARRIVAL IN WORLD

ELECTRIC CAR

An electric car is an automobile that is propelled by one or more electric motors, using electrical energy stored in batteries or another energy storage device. Electric motors give electric cars instant torque, creating strong and smooth acceleration.

Thomas Parker, responsible for innovations such as electrifying the London Underground, overhead tramways in Liverpool and Birmingham, built the first practical production electric car in London in 1184, using his own specially designed high- capacity rechargeable batteries.
